DS Tigers 7U / 8U
We are excited to announce a new and innovative approach to our DSYSA baseball program for the 7U/8U age group: the Select/Rec Hybrid Model. This model is designed to provide a balanced and enriching experience for all players, catering to various skill levels and aspirations.
**What is the Select/Rec Hybrid Model?**
The Select/Rec Hybrid Model combines the competitive edge of select baseball with the inclusive, community-focused nature of recreational baseball. This approach ensures that those players and families, who excel on the field and desire further instruction and indoctrination into a more competitive brand of baseball, have the opportunity to develop their talents, enjoy the game, and grow both as players and individuals.
**Key Features of the Hybrid Model:**
1. Rec First. Everyone in the age group will begin at the Rec level and go through normal team selection and registration. All players will participate in Player Evaluation followed by the Rec Baseball Draft. Placement on a team will follow the normal rec baseball procedures. All rec teams and players will adhere to the standard rec schedule (i.e. 1-2 Games during the week, 1-2 practices)
2. “Fall Stars Selection” Within the first couple of weeks of practices and games, under the leadership of Program Director JD Madrid and Commissioner Matt Morgan, invitations will be handed out to certain players that they deem ready for a one-day “showcase/camp.”
3. Showcase: At this camp, staffed by Coach Madrid and his staff of Select Coaches, players will be taken through a standard practice and drill session reminiscent of the DSBC Select Team Practice Procedures.
4. Become Tigers: At the completion of the camp, an 8U Select Team will be formed with the intent of competing as a Select Team later on in the Fall. Each player will receive the same custom uniform set worn by the DSBC program AND get the full “Player Commit” Social Media treatment.
5. Flexible Scheduling: This hybrid model will then offer 1-2 two-day tournaments in the late fall coached by Coach Madrid, as well as offer an additional mix of periodic practices allowing families to balance Rec baseball, “Select” Baseball, while still managing other commitments. Bear in mind, the “rec first” mantra remains and the expectation is that the players on this team will ALSO be able to participate fully in their full rec schedule. Also to give SOME perspective – the majority of the full-time select teams 9U-14U will be playing less tournaments (i.e. 4-5) this Fall as well.
Program Structure:
– Additional Development: Held twice a month, focusing on skill development and team building.
– Tournaments – Up to 2 two-day tournaments where the team will face off against other Select Teams in the region. The intent is that none of these players additionally will miss any of their rec games.
